  • Continue with good study habits and work ethic.
  • Take advantage of extracurricular activities and take on a leadership role in them.
  • Discover your career interests - Do a career inventory questionnaire, discuss the results with your parents and explore careers.
  • Use those results to help you to explore college programs to determine the best fit.
  • Plan your high school courses and meet with your counselor about your choices and selections.
  • Follow your college planning timeline and check in with your counselor annually about tasks and opportunities.
  • Tour local colleges and go on out of state tours whenever possible.
  • Start preparing for paying for college by reminding your parents about paperwork needed for your Financial Aid forms, doing the FAFSA forecaster tool to determine how much federal aid your child is eligible for and by submitting as many private scholarship applications as possible.
  • Prepare for the SAT, ACT, COMPASS and ASSET by taking test prep courses either in person or online.
  • Attend as many meetings, workshops, events or programs about preparing for college as you can.

Seniors: Please complete your FAFSA forms!!!

The federal government requires a FAFSA from all students seeking financial aid, such as Pell Grants and federal student loans, to pay for college. College Goal Georgia hosts FREE events where volunteers help students and families who need assistance in completing their FAFSA, with a particular focus on helping low-income, first-generation families. Be sure to visit their College Goal Georgia site later this fall to find a FAFSA completion event near you!

GSFC also conducts supplemental Financial Aid events across the state. Visit their site to find one in your area?
